This was our second tour of the year, and it brought together an amazing group of guests who were eager to explore the wonders of Japan.
Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo
Our adventure kicked off with a warm welcome at the airport, where we gathered all our guests and whisked them away to their cozy hotel in Shibuya, one of Tokyo’s most vibrant districts. Shibuya is famous for its bustling streets and the iconic Shibuya Crossing, where you can witness the organized chaos of hundreds of pedestrians crossing at once. After settling in, guests had the evening free to explore Shibuya’s many shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. Oh, the delicious street food!
Day 2: Cherry Blossoms and Culinary Delights
Day two was all about diving deep into Japanese culture! We hopped on the subway and headed to Ueno Park, a cherry blossom paradise. As the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, guests marveled at the pink and white petals dancing in the breeze. It was a sight to behold, and the perfect backdrop for some Instagram-worthy photos!
After soaking in the beauty, we rolled up our sleeves for an interactive cooking class, where everyone learned to whip up a traditional washoku meal. From sushi to miso soup, it was a culinary crash course that tantalized our taste buds! To cap off the day, we ventured to Asakusa to visit Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, where the serene atmosphere wrapped us in tranquility.
Day 3: Majestic Mt. Fuji
On day three, we set our sights on one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks—Mt. Fuji! We journeyed to one of the Fuji Five Lakes, where guests were awestruck by the majestic view of the snow-capped peak reflected in the tranquil waters. It was a picture-perfect moment that we all wanted to last forever!
That evening, we experienced the charm of a traditional Japanese ryokan, complete with tatami mats and futons. To top it off, a sumptuous kaiseki dinner awaited us, showcasing the art of Japanese cuisine with multiple courses that were as beautiful as they were delicious.
Day 4: Historic Inuyama
After a restful night, we hopped on the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya, where excitement awaited us at Inuyama Castle. This historic gem is one of Japan’s oldest castles and boasts a stunning view from the top. The castle’s architecture is a testament to Japan’s rich history.
Following our castle visit, we strolled along the historical Honmachi-dori, where the charm of old Japan greeted us at every turn. Guests enjoyed observing a lively local cherry blossom celebration in Inuyama, complete with traditional floats and joyous festivities!
Day 5: Kiso Valley Exploration
Day five took us to the picturesque post-towns of Magome and Tsumago in the Kiso Valley. These towns are like stepping back in time! We wandered through the quaint streets, admiring the traditional wooden buildings and soaking in the peaceful ambiance.
For the adventurous souls among us, we hiked a section of the Nakasendo Trail, an ancient route lined with bamboo forests, rice terraces, and cascading waterfalls. The fresh air and stunning natural scenery made for an invigorating experience!
Day 6: Nara’s Treasures
On day six, we ventured to Nara, home to UNESCO-listed sites and friendly wild deer that roam freely. Our first stop was Todai-ji, where the Great Buddha statue took our breath away. It’s a magnificent sight that highlights Japan’s spiritual heritage.
Next, we strolled through the lush Kasuga Shrine forest, where guests were delighted to interact with the adorable deer. And of course, the cherry blossoms were in full swing here, creating a magical atmosphere in Nara Park.
Day 7: Kyoto’s Cultural Gems
Day seven was all about Kyoto! We started our day at the stunning Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion, which glimmered in the sunlight. Its reflection in the surrounding pond was simply mesmerizing!
Next, we explored the renowned Zen Rock Garden at Ryoanji, where the simplicity of the landscape invites contemplation and peace. As the day progressed, we treated ourselves to a captivating performance of Miyako Odori, a traditional geisha dance that has entertained audiences for over 149 years. What an experience!
Day 8: Higashiyama District and Tofu Delights
On day eight, we visited the UNESCO-listed Kiyomizu Temple, an architectural marvel set against a backdrop of cherry blossoms. After exploring the temple, we wandered through the charming Higashiyama District, filled with quaint wooden houses and boutique shops, perfect for souvenir hunting!
And let’s talk about lunch—a delightful experience at a 388-year-old tofu restaurant! Guests savored the delicate flavors of expertly prepared tofu dishes that left everyone craving more.
