If you’re planning a trip with kids, you might be wondering which Mimaru location in Tokyo is the best choice. Fear not! I’ve gathered all the juicy details to help you make the best decision. Trust me, you really can’t go wrong with any of them!
Location, Location, Location!
Each Mimaru location is strategically placed to offer easy access to Tokyo’s vibrant attractions. However, your choice might depend on what your family desires from your Japanese adventure. Let’s dive into the different locations and what they offer!
If You Need an Apartment with Multiple Rooms…
Look no further than the Mimaru Asakusa Station or Mimaru Asakusa Suites. These spots are ideal for families who prefer a bit more personal space. Asakusa is a charming area that oozes culture and history, perfect for exploring iconic sites like Sensoji Temple. Plus, the Mimaru in Asakusa boasts a kitchen area that comfortably seats six—perfect for family dinners after a day of sightseeing! And if you fancy a midnight snack, you can borrow kitchen appliances from the reception, like toasters or coffee machines. Talk about convenience!
Just a short three-minute walk from Sensoji Temple, you can even monitor the status of your laundry from your room. How cool is that? For more tips on family-friendly activities in Asakusa, check out my guide on play spaces and restaurants.
For the Shopping and Entertainment Lovers
If your crew thrives on shopping and arcade games, then Ikebukuro is calling your name! This bustling area is on the Yamanote Line, making the whole city accessible with minimal train changes. Plus, it’s home to one of the biggest Toys R Us/Babies R Us, so you can stock up on baby supplies with ease. Ikebukuro is lively, with shopping malls galore, and plenty of fun activities for the kids. For some top-notch kid-friendly activities, check out my favorite things to do in Ikebukuro!
Need Lots of Playgrounds Nearby?
If your kiddos need to burn off some energy, then the Akasaka Mimaru is a fantastic option. This area is a stone’s throw from some of Tokyo’s best playgrounds, particularly in Roppongi, which has family-friendly eateries and is especially welcoming to English-speaking visitors. Plus, Akasaka itself is close to the serene Hie Shrine, a lovely spot to visit, especially during the New Year’s celebrations. The Akasaka Mimaru can accommodate up to six guests, making it perfect for larger families or those with little ones who can share beds. And how about a little magic? There’s even a Harry Potter Cafe nearby to indulge your wizarding world cravings!
JR Station Proximity is Key?
If being right next to a JR Station tops your priority list, then you should consider one of the Ueno Mimaru options. While Ueno may not be the most picturesque area in Tokyo, it’s a bustling hub filled with shopping and dining options. Plus, Ueno Park is conveniently located nearby, offering a breath of fresh air amidst the urban hustle. For a list of family-friendly activities in Ueno, check out my recommendations!
Don’t forget about Mimaru Tokyo Station East! It’s another excellent option for families who want to be near the famous Tokyo Bullet Train Station. Even though I generally don’t recommend staying in this area for families due to its overwhelming urban feel, it does have multi-room apartments if that’s what you’re after.
Easy Access to Tokyo Disney and Odaiba!
For those itching to visit Tokyo Disney or the mesmerizing Team Lab Planets in Odaiba, consider the Hatchobori Mimaru. This was my first Mimaru experience, and I loved every minute! The area offers a quiet retreat while still being a stone’s throw from Ginza’s bustling streets. There’s a supermarket just a couple of minutes away, making it easy to whip up meals for picky eaters or those with dietary restrictions. Just keep in mind that dining options in this area are more limited, focusing on chain-style diners. If you’re a family of foodies, you might prefer one of the Ueno locations instead!
Final Thoughts
Regardless of which Mimaru location you choose, you’re in for a treat! Each property provides a unique experience tailored to different family needs. From spacious accommodations to proximity to attractions, you can create unforgettable memories in Japan. So pack your bags and get ready for an adventure filled with laughter, exploration, and, of course, lots of delicious food!
Happy travels!
