When it comes to planning a trip to Japan, finding the perfect accommodation can be a bit of a balancing act, especially if you’re traveling with little ones. To make your search easier, I wanted to share some hotel brands that I always keep an eye on during my accommodation hunt. While we all have our go-to global brands like Hyatt, Westin, and Hilton (which are great, but sometimes a bit pricey), there are plenty of local options that can offer both comfort and value. So let’s dive into my top picks!

Disclaimer: This is just my opinion, and others may have different experiences. Also, keep in mind that most hotels only open their booking systems about six months in advance. If you’re looking too early, it might seem like everything is fully booked, but that’s just because they haven’t opened those dates yet. Also, when it comes to the official Tokyo Disney Resort hotels, bookings typically open about 3-4 months ahead of time, so plan accordingly!

Now, let’s talk about some Japanese hotel brands that I absolutely love and that are perfect for families:

Mimaru Hotel Apartments:

If you’re traveling with a family, Mimaru is a game-changer! These spacious hotel apartments come with kitchenettes, connecting rooms, and can accommodate up to 10 people! Perfect for larger families or groups. They are designed with young families in mind, making them ideal for a stress-free stay. Want to know which Mimaru location is best for your family? Check out my blog post for all the details!

Candeo Hotels:

New, affordable, and often in fantastic locations, Candeo Hotels are a solid choice. The rooms may be small, but they are clean, and if you request a cot or a sofa bed, they can fit two small children. Plus, don’t miss out on their rooftop public baths! It’s a unique experience that you won’t want to skip.

Nest Hotels:

Looking for something modern yet cozy? Nest Hotels are small but stylish, often including a complimentary breakfast to start your day right. With a 24-hour front desk and on-site coin laundry, these hotels are super convenient for families on the go.

Tokyu Excel Hotels:

Simple, clean, and dependable, Tokyu Excel Hotels provide a no-fuss experience that families can appreciate. You know what you’re getting, and that’s a relief when traveling with kids!

Okura Hotels:

If you’re after a touch of luxury, Okura Hotels should be on your radar. They’re higher-end but worth it for the attention to detail and superb concierge services. Need a restaurant recommendation? They’ve got you covered! Just a heads up: they provide baby cots for children 12 months and under, so plan accordingly if you have older kiddos.

Henn Na Hotel:

For those who love a quirky experience, Henn Na Hotel is a must-try! With its small yet affordable rooms and unique lobby staff (think robots and dinosaurs!), this hotel offers a fun stay. Just keep in mind that this is more of a “fend for yourself” kind of place, but it’s clean and modern, making it a great budget option!

Centurion:

While they have several sub-brands, Centurion hotels are generally clean and provide a decent breakfast. They might not be the most luxurious, but they get the job done!

Hotel Gracery:

Known for being clean, dependable, and family-friendly, Hotel Gracery is a great option. The staff usually speaks English well, making communication a breeze.

Hotel Androoms:

This chain has wowed me with its modern, spacious rooms and beautiful lobby that doubles as a communal working space. And the prices? Unbeatable! I once snagged a room for just 6000 yen, including breakfast! Prices do vary based on location and time of year, so keep an eye out for deals.

Sotetsu Fresa:

Let’s be real—these rooms are tiny, but they are a fantastic option if you’re looking to stretch your travel budget. Most of their buildings have been renovated from older chains, so while the rooms are small, they are impeccably clean. They’re great for singles, couples, or those traveling with a little baby. Just a heads-up: breakfast is simple, so it might not be worth the extra cost. However, many Sotetsu locations have microwaves, vending machines, and coin laundry facilities!

Kiro Hotels by the Share Group:

I haven’t stayed at Kiro Hotels yet, but I’ve heard rave reviews about how family-friendly they are. If you’re traveling with kids, definitely consider checking them out!

When booking hotels in Japan, especially with children, it can be confusing. Many hotels assume that families will share beds, so be prepared for that when you’re making your reservations.
