The Fun and Fervor of Japanese Baseball Fans
The excitement doesn’t stop there! Japanese baseball games feature vibrant cheerleaders and animated mascot characters that dash out onto the field. These lively mascots, complete with colorful costumes, lead the crowd in cheers and fun routines, adding to the festive spirit. It’s a full-on carnival atmosphere where every game feels like a celebration!
Post-COVID Experience: Adjusting to New Norms
We’ve attended our fair share of baseball games in Japan, but we hadn’t been back since the COVID-19 pandemic transformed the game day experience. On September 6, 2022, we made our way to Vantelin Dome in Nagoya to catch the Chunichi Dragons face off against the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. We were excited to witness the spectacle, but we quickly noticed that the atmosphere was slightly muted. Cheering and shouting were prohibited, and instead of the usual vivacious crowd energy, synchronized cheers were played over loudspeakers. While fans clapped and banged their plastic cheering bats in rhythm, it just didn’t quite match the exhilarating vibe we remembered. The Carp triumphed over the Dragons with a score of four to two, and we found ourselves cheering in our hearts!
Seating: Finding Your Spot
When we attend a game with a tour group, we usually score better seats than the ones featured in our video. However, this time it was just the two of us, and we opted for the more economical seats. And you know what? It was still a blast! There’s something incredibly relaxing about grabbing a cold beer, settling into your seat, and soaking in the dual entertainment of the game and the colorful antics of the fans around you.
The seats in the video were from the Panorama A section, which set us back 2,000 yen on that particular day. Not too shabby for a memorable evening of baseball!

Food and Drinks: A Culinary Delight at the Ballpark
Here’s a little tip for you: Unlike the baseball games in the United States, you can bring your own food and drinks into the stadium in Japan! However, there are a few rules to keep in mind—cans and plastic bottles are off-limits for safety reasons. But don’t fret! Drinks in cardboard containers are perfectly acceptable.
Now, let’s talk about the scrumptious food options available at the stadium! From savory snacks to refreshing beverages, the culinary offerings will tantalize your taste buds:
Food/Drink Item | Price (Yen) |
---|---|
Yakisoba (Fried Noodles) | 450 |
Edamame (Soybeans) | 300 |
Popcorn | 300 |
Draft Beer | 750 |
